What’s New Nicole?

Saturday, January 30th, 2010

House of Harlow THE must-buy celeb-accessory collection from Nicole Ritchie is really rockin’ at Q. And when we thought we had enough 70s style Aztec motifs set against leather she mined another mother lode -  the classy horse world, a palace garden with peacocks running rampant and old-time seals and sealing wax - to provide her with artistic/design inspiration. Once again Nicole hits it out of the ballpark!

Eel Skin Designs from Heidi Mottram

Thursday, January 28th, 2010

Central St Martin alum Heidi Motrram has carved her own unique niche in London’s burgeoning fashion scene: she is considered the UK’s foremost authority on the use of eel skin in fashion and design. Heidi who only started her line in 2007 – after stints at Matthew Williamson and Vivienne Westwood, no less – discovered new ways to work and manipulate the skins by pleating, ruching, pin tucking and folding to create new shapes and textures – witness her bags below.

Some eel trivia: Eel skin is amazingly durable. It is 150% stronger than cowhide of the same thickness, is lightweight and becomes softer and suppler with use. As a natural product, there are individual variations in colour and markings making each skin distinctive. Also, even if your bag gets wet, the skin does not change texture or become watermarked. How durable is that?

All Dekkori-ed Out and Ready to PARTY!

Tuesday, January 26th, 2010

Stephanie Kim a genius young LA-based designer has created a brand new accessory category: the Dekkori, a unique leather legging that ably and effortlessly converts your shoe into something more delicate and evening-ready, OR if the mood strikes, choose a romping-stomping ankle bootie or a thigh-high take-no-prisoners-cause-I-drink-tequila-shots-for breakfast – kind of girl.

Made of soft leather or suede you just slip the Dekkori over and around your ankle, securely snap it around the sole of your foot and faster than you can say, well… Dekkori, it effortlessly turns that old pair of sandals or pumps into an amazing pair of slouchy leather boots or a pair of stylish funky heels. Howzat? We reckon that the term Dekkori will enter the fashion lexicon and become synonymous with all such double duty shoe accessories to come. Set the pace and start a trend in a Dekkori!

Amulets for Modern Living from Lara Bohinc

Wednesday, January 13th, 2010

Lara Bohinc is an original in the world of accessory design. She makes distinctive accessories which she imbues with style and presence…and that is not saying enough. The proof dear readers is in the wearing… indeed once you own one of her pieces, it will excite comment and will (I daresay) provoke some to some form of venial sin: envy, lust, covetousness …but why say I? Just hop down to Q and get a piece for yourself. Her latest collection, The Seventh Seal is the most ambitious to date, inspired as it is by another age and time… one of knights donning armour, the Dark Ages, Joan of Arc and Ingmar Bergman’s classic film The Seventh Seal. In her words the collection is “a dramatic meditation on opposing forces; darkness and light, softness versus rigidity, movement and stillness”.

The Seventh Seal jewellery collection while resilient and protective like armour has a flexibility that allows the jewellery to flow and follow the wearer’s movements. Each Morgana is made by knitting together metal loops of snake chain and chainmail which are then reversed in the Crusade bangle. Like a spring, each piece can stretch and then snap back into shape. The jewellery is available in 18k gold- or platinum-plate.

Enter the Imaginative World of Kristin Ash

Wednesday, January 13th, 2010

Sydney-based Kristin Ash creates a veritable Narnia-type world of wonder and delight in her collection of cuffs, rings and necklaces. Her “through the looking glass” lightly (sic) world is made up of brightly-hued acorns, robust bumble bees, bow-tied bugs, flowers, trees, birds and bees juxtaposed against jolly gingham, subtle checks, stripes and polka dots.

We think the collection fresh and totally delightful…you decide!
