Zambos and Siega at Q

Saturday, November 28th, 2009

Ex-Tracy Ross alumnus, Lisa Siega and Karen Zambos have parlayed all they learnt while working at that great store to create Zambos & Siega their new line of unique handbags inspired by classic looks. The line uses vintage fabrics as linings and custom hardware. We loved the line and brought in the taco-shaped clutches and the non-leather Jaggs line because of its wonderful seam details, interesting use of new types of material and antiqued brass hardware…great for gals-on-the-go. We also love their Elegantly Waisted range of cool and dressy stone-cum-ribbon belts!

Classic Style from Gina and Jake

Friday, November 27th, 2009

Georgina Backhouse the talent behind one of our favourite exotic skin lines at Q has just introduced two new styles into her portfolio of designs. The neutral day-to-night Asia Clutch available in camel, white and navy can be used as a tote during the day and can be folded down into a super spacious clutch for the evening.

The hard-at-work Singapore-based designer whose design aesthetic is to combine Asian materials with a British design sensibility has also introduce an amazing range of wallets (which can also be used as simple grab-and-go clutches) made of snake and lizard into the mix. As with all her bags, customers love the multi-pockets, ease of closure and the singular elegance that permeates her designs.

Lara, Lara and more Lara Bohinc

Thursday, November 19th, 2009

When we buy lines and discover designers for Q we choose a mix of designers who are on-trend, hyped and immediately relevant, as well as designers that can join the Q portfolio of “classic” brands because their design aesthetic makes them collectible. Slovenia-born Lara Bohinc with her supermodel look and her wonderfully executed and imagined jewellery is one that we will always stock. We re-visit her classics this X’mas with the plait bangles, Solar- and Lunar Eclipse and Rosetta Collections. Indulge and Enjoy!

NB: The Camerons gifted Michelle Obama with the Laratella Bracelet from Lara Bohinc knowing her love for signature very individual-looking costume jewellery!

Vintage with a Witty Twist from Shara Porter

Sunday, November 15th, 2009

Shara Porter celebrates the whimsical with the workable and combines the two with a witty twist. The designer-artist has made a career out of giving vintage accessories a new life by adding her signature line imagery to them: chandeliers, rabbits, bows, birds, beavers and more onto the old rendering it new once more. Hurrah!

We bought a small selection of card holders made from repurposed leather – decades-old mint condition leather jackets made into card holders! Best of all, yes there is a best…the card holders come in juicy sherbet colours like cotton candy, lime, lemonade, orange pop as well as licorice and even better, they are all one-of-a-kind. In with the old made new again!

Alkemie (sic): The Practice of Transforming Common Metals into Gold

Sunday, November 15th, 2009

We are proud to introduce one the most environmentally- and socially-conscious lines of jewellery to our shores. Ashley Lowengrub and Dara Gerson the married couple behind this wonderfully imagined line, use only reclaimed metals including junked car parts and used bullet casings sourced from shooting ranges to make this incredible line that looks both art deco-y and vintage-y yet screams hard rock!

The craftsmanship is incredible…an octopus with legs that wrap around the wrist, a shagreen inspired cuff with a serrated centre, a lacy cuff complete with delicate cut-outs in hard-edged metal…what gives? The line is regularly featured in WWD and Marie Claire and has earned kudos from the fashion industry for the philosophy and design direction behind it.

Rock On Ashley and Dara!!!

Pass the Cristal Darling!

Sunday, November 15th, 2009

Golden-hued Cristal served ice cold and crispy in disgustingly expensive champagne flutes….yes, no…maybe? Sit back and relax, we offer something even more decadent from the Q menu: palm-and-arm sized iridescent, Swarovski-studded, crinkled, pearlised, metallised, croco- and lizard-ised (phew!) clutches and minaudieres perfect for a starry night out on the town or walking arm-in-arm with your beau!

How do you spell it…PARFAIT!

Adia Kibur: Over-Crafted, Over-the-Top and Over-at-Q

Saturday, November 14th, 2009

Adia Kibur…got to love that name. Is it ethnic, does it convey images of the Ottoman Empire or golden-hued multitudes in Yeats’ Sailing to Byzantium…yes, yes, and more than YES. The collection is wonderful and creative…swirls of zippers, mosaic patterns of crystal, chain-maille which still looks super-femme, layerings of necklaces, ribbon closures (all the rage), glass beaded cuffs. Look ostentatious and individual (only single pieces ordered) in affordable style…my, my, my Adia Kibur.

Illuminate Your Being with Volpino

Saturday, November 14th, 2009

The Volpino line which is both affordable and fun was created by founder Fabrizio Volpino who more than 16 years ago originated the concept of  acrylic crystal. The line is known for its very modern and thoroughly aesthetic line of jewellery made using combinations of acrylic crystal, Murano glass and sterling silver.  Volpino has also been honoured with the sought after “Crystallized by Swarovski” award directly from Austria.

NB: A small more gossipy aside… cast your mind back to the pre-Kabbalah Madonna who once wore a crystal-studded black acrylic bikini for one of her concerts. Remember?  I asked Fabrizio about how it was measuring and fitting out the Immaculate One and he replied that there are literally 10 people you have to get through before you can even meet her and even then… Unfortunately for Fabrizio, her measurements and all fittings never passed through his hands. Big sigh…! However, if you feel your wardrobe is incomplete, you want to channel the 90s and rock out in a studded bikini…we will put you in touch…c’mon why not, add a bit of rock goddess to your look!!
