Je M’apelle Linea Pelle

Wednesday, November 19th, 2008

Every handbag brand has its classic or signature look – think the Birkin, Vuitton’s Speedy or Rebecca Minkoff’s Morning After Bag. Our new line in-store is called Linea Pelle and its “it” bag is called the Dylan. Stars are toting it and we know why….made of soft washed Italian leather with antiqued brass stud details, nifty, grommeted reinforcements at the corners, intuitively-placed easily-accessible pockets and an overall size, shape and construction that is perfect for everyday use…the Dylan like all other Linea Pelle bags is durable, functional, super-stylish and at Q.

Its Simply Vita-licious at Q

Tuesday, November 18th, 2008

Its in and its worth the wait…Cynthia Sakai the wunderkid designer of Vita Fede has nimbly gone beyond her original classic and totally hype-r-licious chain closure snakeskin bangle! Her new designs for Vita Fede are totally diverse: mock zipper pulls on thick leather snakeskin bracelet, interlocking chains on quilted leather cuff-like bangles, coloured crystals on snakeskin and my current favourite a very spare small gold oval on a muted thin snakeskin bangle called the Laura.

Pile it on and party on this festive season.

Travel the World with Charm and Luck

Wednesday, November 12th, 2008

Take two Syquia sisters each living on different continents nine time zones apart, mix it up with one part sister working at Vogue in New York and later starting a fashion magazine In the Philippines and the other sister working as a management executive at Nordstroms and you get the Charm and Luck handbag story in brief.

When we first brought in the line four years ago it was super funky and completely bedazzled with rhinestones and crystals on the handles and straps. We had never seen anything like it and loved it. The line has moved on with the use of new materials…soft as a baby lambskin; tone-on-tone crystals spelling out affirmative words like Love and Hope; and wonderful new shapes… now named after the cities of the world… Santa Fe satchel, San Francisco shopper, London doctors bag and the Lynne – there’s a town called Lynne? Who knew?

Reach for the Real Thing: Smart Glass

Tuesday, November 11th, 2008

How do you mix eco savvy consciousness with fashion? Meet Atlanta-based Kathleen Plate who makes handcrafted jewellery using vibrantly recycled glass from beer, wine, water and soft drink bottles – include my favourite drink of all time, Coke – silver solder and sterling silver to make earrings, lariats and necklaces. Although green-friendly – the beautiful pieces eschew all the hippie-dippie, sarong and plaited strings look that sometimes define this style.

Smart Glass is as delightful to wear as it is fashionable. It was featured on Gossip Girl; is worn by the stars of 90210; walked the catwalks at Mercedes LA Fashion Week 2008; and is worn by stylish star Sienna Miller…howzat for style!

Mam’s the Word

Saturday, November 8th, 2008

Even before Q was created, T and I bought Mam’s line of contemporary ethnic jewellery to wear and to sell. Ex-advertising guru Mam left corporate life to pursue making her own line of jewellery which dares to be different yet is totally wearable. Mam searches the world to unearth one-of-a-kind unusual fossils, uncut and unpolished semi-precious and chunky stones, jade, cinnabar, onyx, turquoise and amber to create sculptural pieces that are soldered onto 925 silver.

Wear a Mam necklace on a pared-down simple cap-sleeved white tee and jeans and it is ironically enough the simple minimalism that is only possible to achieve through art!
