Hear Ye! Hear Ye! Angel Court in Session

Friday, October 17th, 2008

So T and I met Angela and Courtney (Angel Court) in June this year and heard of the girls’ travels and adventures while in Hollywood land. And believe me T and I had a totally different set of travails in La La land…our feet were aching and muscles were sore as we went traipsing from designer to designer to score lines for Q. Instead, les girls were at an honest-to-goodness studio lot watching the shooting of an episode of Samantha Who – some of Christina Applegate’s jewellery on the show is from the line. And then, the coup de grace, they were up early the next day to measure Tommy Lee Jones for a piece of customised body jewellery – tough job girls – guess someone has to do it – please see pix below!

Angel Court offers a very unique design proposition. Angela and Courtney search the Deep South and indeed the world for antique estate heirlooms and bits and bobs to incorporate into their truly one-of-a-line eclectic pieces of jewellery. The result: totally unique pieces that are romantic and sensitive yet touched with a rock ‘n roll aesthetic. Each piece is handcrafted in their historic loft in the heart of downtown Meridian Mississippi.

Boyy oh Boyy oh Boyy

Wednesday, October 8th, 2008

Created by ex-model and television personality Wannasiri Kongman (aka Boyy) and musician/producer/composer Jesse Dorsey (who has scored for Cirque du Soleil and the Beastie Boys), Boyy bags are equal parts imagination and savoir faire….each bag blends super-functionality with luxury to create a chic and modern aesthetic. My favourite aspect of each bag whether it is the Little Frank (her signature piece), Doy, Lester or Bradshaw – all at Q – are the detachable straps, hidden pockets and zippered compartments, making each bag as useful as it is stylish.

The line like Boyy herself, is super-cosmopolitan and has been featured in Instyle, Nylon, Time Out New York, Variety, Harpers Bazaar and has been blogged by Perez Hilton.

For Retail Relief Reach for a Painkiller

Wednesday, October 8th, 2008

Our Q story for Painkiller is like a mini fairytale…I saw a Thai customer carrying a cool multi-functional tote bag and asked him for the brand. He told me that it was from a clothing line out of Bangkok and that they only make one style of bag called the Altogether – which he was carrying. We ordered a couple of pieces and there were no takers…then thank you very much Martin Wong from Urban who featured the bag in its pages and we were sold out. We went deeper and found out that Painkiller is now focusing all their energy on bags and accessories.

The brand created a mini storm in Paris and Italy and got into the pages of Elle Accessories and Italian fashion magazines with their fantastic range of quilted clutches and round party bags all immediately identifiable by their signature wooden disc fronting each bag and leather braided chain straps.

Set a trend with Painkiller.

The Power of 3 = Magnes Sisters

Saturday, October 4th, 2008

Dina, Yael and Tamar Magnes are three Israeli sisters living in New York who promote family values by designing and creating their eponymous line of handbags called….wait for it now….Magnes Sisters. Handmade of Italian leather, natural canvas, vintage wool and lined with silky underpinnings, the bags say the sisters three are an expression of their individuality and harmony as a trio.

We looked at the line and bought the Ballet  mini-satchel because it is simply perfect for a night on the town or an early morning brunch date as at 10×7.5” it can hold your days’ necessities: phone, keys, gloss and cc and offers three styles of carrying…long or short chain or leather handles.

We think its cool and not surprisingly so does Instyle!

Long Hot Indian Summer with Frue at Quintessential

Saturday, October 4th, 2008

Its hot, hot, hot at Q with Frue’s new Indian Summer Collection. Inspired by the kaleidoscopic colours seen at the end of an extended summer called an Indian Summer – cool blues, rich ambers, sumptuous golds and iridescent purples – Joanne Yeo of Frue has used crystals, semi-precious gemstones and her incredible talent to create unique and wearable designs that she says “are derived from the fusion of intricate Indian jewellery and this season’s contemporary styles”.

Indian Summer is exclusive to Quintessential.

No Dry Cleaning Required with Chinese Laundry

Wednesday, October 1st, 2008

High fashion looks at high street prices, that’s the Chinese Laundry design premise. Since we started ordering this US-based line…it practically sells itself because it delivers a dynamic combination for the price- and fashion-savvy cognoscenti: it is well-priced and riding all the current fashion trends….chain straps, slouchy metallic hobos, ruched and riveted clutches, resin-framed mini clutches, multi-pocketed and buckled big bags and of course wristlets in all colours and finishes.
